Whiskey Experience Reviews

Jameson Tasting at The Spirits of 76

The Story: As anyone who follows my social media accounts knows, I am an active member of the Whiskey Club at The Spirits of 76.  Similar to most whiskey clubs, to be a member you have to drink a pour of every whiskey on the list.  As a way to say thank you to the club members the venue recently hosted a Jameson Castmates Tasting event.

Experience I got to the bar a little early which was wonderful because I got to meet Casie, who is the local Jameson representative.  I got to talk to her about her experience visiting the distillery before the event started, and I have to admit, I’m a little jealous.  Anyone who gets as excited as I do about a pour of whiskey straight from the barrel is a good person in my book.

The Spirits of 76 is exactly what you would want from your local pub.  It has a cozy laidback environment which made the one-on-one event setting perfect.  Casie engaged every table individually, explaining the history of Jameson and how their commitment to all-natural spirits led to the creation of Castmates series.  She touched on the fact that Jameson is able to use beer barrels to flavor their whiskey without tainting the purity of the whiskey.  She provided a tasting and some swag to all of the whiskey club members.

Casie also held a raffle for a Jameson Hockey Jersey that I of course entered.  I sat at the end of the bar and chatted with her between guests arriving while I marked whiskies off of my list.  As she was closing up she asked me to draw for the raffle which I refused in case I won.  As luck would have it Matt, one of my favorite bartenders, drew my name anyways.  That was the only time I have ever seen him shocked.  Overall, I had a great night and enjoyed the event (not just because I have an awesome new jersey).

Recommendation: I recommend The Spirits of 76 to anyone looking for a bar in Arlington with a hometown feel.  The owners and bartenders are wonderful and know all of the regular customers by name.  I am a huge fan of this bar and welcome a little competition in the whiskey club.  I truly love anywhere that wants to reward me as a costumer for drinking whiskey! I’m off to yoga, Cheers!
